UCSI UNIVERSITY CELEBRATES WITH FIESTA NUMERO UNO

Kuala Lumpur, 04 March 2010 - UCSI University’s Student Council launched its Fiesta Numero Uno today, an event which combines several carnivals and fairs in one, to create one of the biggest fiestas on campus. The Fiesta Numero Uno, Spanish for “The Number One Fiesta”, includes a Flea Market with 20 stalls promoting clothing, accessories and other items; a Street Carnival with 20 stalls selling food and drinks; and a PC & Games Fair with companies selling IT products and accessories. The event culminated with a concert, dubbed as the Unifest, featuring popular local bands.

The Unifest saw more than 500 students cheering on local bands such as The Seven Collar T-Shirt, An Honest Mistake, Bus Company and Free to Fall. The concert also included a fashion show organised by the University’s Social Sciences and Liberal Arts Association, to commemorate this year’s International Women’s Day.

The event combined students from different fields, from Management students who organised the Street Carnival, to Mass Communications and Engineering students for various other events. The Street Carnival saw students selling unique gastronomic concoctions of their own, such as the Subwow sandwiches, hot and cold jelly and chocolate fondue. According to Simon Goh, President of the Management Student Association, the students applied marketing strategies learned in class succeeded in attracting customers.

The PC fair saw the main sponsor, local mobile phone manufacturer, CSL, demonstrating their products. Lucky draw sessions were conducted periodically to win the grand prize of a CSL Blueberry mobile phone.

The Fiesta Numero Uno is just one of the events organised by the University’s Student Council to celebrate the lead-up to UCSI University’s celebration of its 25th year in the education industry next year in May.
