THE UCSI GROUP BAGS INTERNATIONAL FILM AWARD

Kuala Lumpur, 04 Oct 2010 - A 90-second video clip produced by the UCSI Group on national unity won the PLURAL+ Paley Center Media Education Award 2010 in New York City last week.

The award is part of the PLURAL+ 2010 Youth Video Festival, a joint initiative of the United Nations Alliance of Civilisation and the International Organisation for Migration. It encourages young people from all over the world to engage themselves with issues relating to migrant integration, inclusiveness, identity, diversity, human rights and social cohesiveness. All winning entries, including UCSI’s, will be broadcast and screened around the world.

In his video entitled “Unity, Peace, Tolerance Equals Friendship,” producer Ryan Tan, a member of the UCSI Group Corporate Affairs team, conveys the nation’s “1Malaysia” goal on national unity through a fun clip of an ethnically-mixed group of people sharing space on a crowded elevator. The UCSI Group is committed to Malaysia’s aim to achieve ethnic harmony and provided the seed money for the project.

Tan attributed the winning to UCSI Group Chairman Dato’ Peter Ng whose recognition of young talent and constant encouragement spurred him on to “taking a chance” at winning this international award.

“Without Dato’ Peter’s help I would not have made it,” Tan said.

Tan also thanked the “madcap” colleagues and seniors at the Group Corporate Affairs office for standing by him throughout the project.

“Their belief in me further spurred me on,” he said.

For his efforts Tan is to be accorded a special honorary diploma from the festival organisers.
